Educational benefits of using blogs

I actually found an article that was easy to understand. Try reading Half an Hour: Blogs in Education by Stephen Downes, http://3.ly/ts6. The author gives a concise list of the educational benefits of using blogs. One interesting point is that blogs increase motivation for students to do their best work. I hope this encourages the students' use of complete English sentences instead of the text messaging style they are so fond of.

The author also gives a concise list of how to use blogging in learning. An interesting point here is that the teacher needs to address "bullying" as students post comments. And you thought that bullying only happened on the playground.

  1. Do you think you might have your students try keeping a blog? I can show you how to set up an easy one in Blackboard for the students to use with their Side by Side if you'd like to get your students started that way. It's not as pretty or formal looking as Blogger or some of the others, but it might be a good starting point for them.

  2. Glad to see you getting some good tools to work with. Definitely a challenge.
